Farmers have experienced a boost in their income by using solar irrigation pumps as well as their awareness has resulted in the installation of solar pumps in every village. Farmers are always seeking the installation of solar pumps as their income has doubled as a result of the installation of solar pumps. CREDA has installed a total of 1thousand 694 pumps to date. Solar pumps are being put in cowsheds and pastures alongside farmer’s land. There are several communities where there are no pumps. The main objective of the solar pump to be set up by the state government under the ‘Saur Sujala Yojana’ is to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers of the state. The usage of solar pumps is assisting the state in raising agricultural production, conserving and supplementing groundwater, and enhancing the rural economy. Farmers have benefited greatly from the Saur Sujala Yojana, said Collector Mr. S. Jayawardhan, and they are growing financially sound. Farmers are no longer required to pay any type of electricity bill, which has liberated them from unneeded expenses. The government is saving crores of rupees in electricity by installing solar pumps, and it is reducing carbon dioxide and smoke emissions caused by land exploitation and coal burning.
Mr. Dhaniram, a farmer of Munjal Uparpara village of Manpur development block, has installed a solar pump in his field. Mr. Dhaniram told that a 3 HP capacity solar pump is installed on his farm where there are about 3-5 acres of land. Earlier, due to a lack of means of irrigation, they used to depend on monsoon, and due to lack of timely rains, the crop was ruined. Earlier the income from the total land used to be around 10 to 15 thousand. After the installation of the solar pump, paddy worth Rs 1 lakh is being produced in the same field due to an adequate irrigation system. After harvesting the paddy crop, he sows corn on 3 acres, from which he earns an additional income of Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sonsai, a farmer from Ambagarh Chowki development block’s village Adejhar (Boirdih), stated that a solar pump with a capacity of 3 HP had been installed in his land. Before, paddy planting might earn up to 15 thousand rupees. Following the installation of a solar pump, the overall income from producing vegetables alongside paddy has increased to Rs. 1 lakh 50 thousand. He added that, in addition to his farm, he provides water to the fields of his neighbors, and this after harvesting the paddy crop. They grow wheat, gram, and vegetables such as brinjal, cabbage, barbatti, and tomato, and earn an additional 40 to 50 thousand rupees. District Officer of CREDA Mr. Sanket Dwivedi stated that it is good for farmers who do not have sufficient irrigation arrangements or who are unable to bear the expenditure of an electricity extension line until the farmer’s land is solely dependent on the monsoon. Let’s see if it rains. Farmers become economically weak as a result. In light of these circumstances, CREDA is installing solar power irrigation pumps with the initiative and financial support of the Chhattisgarh government through the Saur Sujala Yojana.
