State government simplifies process of passport issuance and renewal

m-passport-app to be used

Pilot project will be started in six districts

Raipur 23 December 2021 / The state government has decided to simplify the process of issuance and renewal of passport using m-passport-app. Now, people will get relief from hassles of police verification and lengthy procedures in issuance of passports.

The pilot project for the same will be started in six districts of the state including Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Korba, Raigarh and Surguja districts of the state. Discussions regarding simplification of issuance and renewal of passport process were held in a meeting of home department chaired by Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan today. Additional Chief Secretary Home Mr. Subrat Sahoo was also present in the meeting.

In the meeting, Director General of Police Mr. Ashok Juneja informed that the process of issuance of passports has been simplified using m-passport app in the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Odisha. This app is proposed to be used in the state of Chhattisgarh. A team of home department officials have been sent to Maharashtra for getting a better understanding of nitty-gritty of the entire process. This app will be used in six such districts of the state from where applications for making new passports or renewal are received in large numbers. In Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Korba, Raigarh and Surguja districts, initially, passports of applicants will be made through m-passport app.

During the process, information will be sent to the applicant from the police station concerned for verification of documents. The physical verification of the place of residence of the applicant will be done by the personnel of the police station concerned within the stipulated date. Following this, the entire process will be done through online medium. Work of providing passport to the applicant will be completed in 21 days.

Chief Secretary has given instructions to the Home Department to make necessary preparations in this regard. Senior officers of the Police Department and officers of Passport Office were also present in the meeting.
