Life is like Chandrayaan Mission, persistence and edurance in the face of difficulties leads to success: President of India

President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu awarded degrees to 2946 students at the tenth convocation of Guru Ghasidas University

Nearly 60 percent of the graduates are girls, this is a big achievement in the direction of women empowerment, said President

Raipur, 01 September 2023/ President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu attended the tenth convocation ceremony of Guru Ghasidas University and conferred degrees on the students. In her address to the ceremony, Mrs. Murmu said that one can take great inspiration for life from Chandrayaan mission. India’s Chandrayaan successfully landed on the surface of the Moon, despite the challenges and obstacles. This major achievement was the result of the consistent efforts and perseverance in the direction for years. And similarly, one can achieve any goal any milestone in life with hard work, consistency and perseverance. One should not get dishheartned by the temporary setbacks nor get distracted by the immediate gratification. Every challenge should be considered a new opportunity to learn and grow. It is noteworthy that the President awarded degrees to 2946 students on this occasion. Governor Mr. Vishwabhushan Harichandan and Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel also addressed the students at the ceremony.

The President commenced her address with the greeting- ‘Jai Johar!’. She said that our tricolor has reached the moon. It is a historical achievement. Universities should organize events to discuss how the scientists have achieved this feat. This would help in developing scientific attitude and scientific temper among the youth. It is one of the fundamental duties stated in the Constitution. I am glad that this university is equipped with modern laboratories. Accelerator based research center has also been established here. This university should make its mark in the world through constructive research. The countries which are ahead in adopting science and technology will progress ahead. In our space mission as well, there were several instances of non-cooperation from the world, yet we persevered.

The President said that this university is named after Guru Ghasidas, who gave us the message of equality. Only by following the ideals of equality can the youth walk on the path of fulfillment and build a civilized society.

On this occasion, the President also remembered the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. She said that Raipur airport is named after Swami Vivekananda. Swami ji always emphasized on the importance of sports and physical health. He was an idol of self-confidence. Swamiji had proclaimed the superiority of Indian culture to the world in Chicago, at the time when slavery was prevalent and people of Asia were struggling with the prejudice abroad. The young generation should take inspiration from Swami Vivekananda.

The President further said- “I am delighted to observe that out of 76 students who have received gold medals, 45 are girls, which is about 60 percent of the total number. 47 percent girl students are studying in the university. This is a big step towards women empowerment. Half of the country’s population is women. Empowering them will make the country stronger.

She said that there is a large population of tribal community in the area around the university. One-third of the state’s population is tribal. Issues like sensitivity towards the tribal community and participation of women are very important. Good work is being done by the university in this regard.

At the convocation ceremony, the President congratulated the students for their achievements. She also underlined the contribution of the students, their parents and the teaching staff of the University for this Achievement.
Education makes us cultured and disciplined: Governor Mr. Vishwabhushan Harichandan

In his address to the students, Governor Mr. Vishwabhushan Harichandan congratulated the students and said that convocation is a dignified ceremony which recognizes your hard work and also brings with it a responsibility. You will get many opportunities to explore different aspects of life as well as the chances to learn new things. During this phase, you will internalize values and develop capabilities. Education not only makes us cultured but also makes us disciplined. It helps us to gain position, wealth and prestige in the society and also makes you grow as a person. On this occasion, the Governor recalled the historical contribution of the personalities of the freedom struggle. He said that we should work hard and spend our lives working for the welfare of the marginalized communities, as it is the true service of mankind.

Students have proven themselves worthy of the gold medals with thier determination and hard work: Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel

On this occasion, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel said that these talented students have proven themselves to be worthy of titles and gold medals with their hard work, intelligence and discipline. This university has always been a beacon of knowledge. With the blessings of our forefathers, our state is moving forward on the path of development with the abundant resources, rich biodiversity, dense forests, beautiful nature, beautiful life, excellent human values. We are constantly working in the direction of youth empowerment. We have conducted recruitment on 42 thousand posts. We have given employment, self-employment and enterprises through Rural Industrial Park. We are also providing unemployment allowance, so that the youth can get financial aid to prepare for a better future. The Chief Minister also remembered Guru Ghasidas ji on this occasion. He said that Guru Ghasidas ji envisioned an egalitarian society and gave the message of equality and justice.

On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the University Mr. Alok Kumar Chakrawal presented the report, citing various achievements of the University.

Union Minister of State for Tribal Development Mrs. Renuka Singh was present as a special guest of the ceremony. Also Higher Education Minister Mr. Umesh Patel, Mayor of Municipal Corporation Bilaspur Mr. Ramsharan Yadav, Bilaspur MP Mr. Arun Sao, Durg MP Mr. Vijay Baghel, Bilaspur MLA Mr. Shailesh Pandey, Takhatpur MLA Mrs. Rashmi Ashish Singh, Bilha MLA Mr. Dharamlal Kaushik, Beltara MLA Mr. Rajneesh Singh, President of State Industrial Development Corporation Mr. Nand Kumar Sai, President of Chhattisgarh Tourism Board Mr. Atal Srivastava, many public representatives, senior administrative officers and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
