More than 5,000 farmers of Abujhmad benefitted from the distribution of ‘Masahati Patta

They can now sell paddy at support price, avail benefits of all government schemes

Raipur, 11 October 2022/ After years of struggles, it’s finally an end to the worries of the farmers of Abujhmad, a dense forest region in the Narayanpur district which was once a stronghold of Naxalites.

The farmers of about 246 villages here had faced a lot of difficulties for generations as there was no record of their lands in the government database. Due to this, they were unable to avail benefits of the welfare schemes such as getting loans and selling paddy at the support prices. However, now their worries have finally come to an end with the distribution of ‘Masahati Pattas’ (land ownership deeds).

Farmers will be able to avail benefits of all government schemes

The farmers of this tribal-dominated region will be able to avail the benefits of all government schemes. Earlier, they were dependent on rain for irrigation but now after the distribution of pattas, they have got the facility of solar pumps. They used to sell their paddy at throwaway prices ranging from Rs 10 to 15 in the markets, but now will be able to sell their paddy at the support price. For this, paddy procurement centers have been started at Kohkameta, Basing, and Orchha in the Abujhmad region. Besides, ‘dabri’ construction can also be done in the fields now. Now along with the distribution of seeds for various crops, guidance is also being given to the farmers by the Agriculture Department. The drip irrigation system is being installed in the fields and poly houses have been built.

Masahati survey of 93 villages completed

Out of 246 villages notified for the Masahati survey, 237 villages of the entire Orchha block and 9 villages of Narayanpur block were included. So far, the survey of 93 villages has been completed including 9 villages of Narayanpur block and 84 villages of Orchha block. More than 5,000 people have received ‘Masahati Pattas’ so far. The remaining survey work is ongoing at a rapid pace. They are also being linked with other welfare schemes of the state government.
