Mindset That Glorifies Violence and Naxalism Is Equally Harmful to Society: Chief Minister

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, during an interview with a private television channel, said that those who support Naxalism and regard Naxalites such as Hidma, who was responsible for the killing of hundreds of innocent people, as role models are “intellectual Naxals”. He said that society must firmly reject any mindset that provides ideological support to violence or seeks to glorify Naxalism.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said it is extremely unfortunate that some people portray as heroes those responsible for the deaths of innocent civilians and security personnel. Naxalites such as Hidma, he said, subjected generations in Bastar to fear, deprivation and backwardness. Glorifying them or raising slogans in their support amounts to an insult to the suffering of affected families and the sacrifices of martyred security personnel.
He said democracy guarantees the right to express views and disagreement, but supporting violence or glorifying those responsible for killing innocent people cannot be justified. Naxalism, he added, is not a challenge confined merely to guns and violence; the mindset that justifies such violence and creates distrust in democratic institutions is equally concerning.
The Chief Minister said Chhattisgarh is rapidly emerging from the long and painful phase of Naxalism. With the courage of security forces, the firm resolve of the Central and State Governments and the cooperation of the people of Bastar, Naxalism is moving towards its end.
He said Bastar, once known for Naxal violence, landmines, and fear, is now witnessing the expansion of roads, schools, healthcare services, and opportunities for education and employment. At the same time, remote villages are increasingly connected to government schemes and the mainstream of development.
“The youth of Bastar now want books, pens, skills and employment, not guns,” Chief Minister Shri Sai said, adding that the government is committed to ensuring that every young person in Bastar gets opportunities to move forward and that the benefits of development and good governance reach every family.
The Chief Minister said the fight against Naxalism is not merely a security battle but a struggle to safeguard Bastar’s future. Security personnel have brought this fight to a decisive stage through immense courage and sacrifice, and society must ensure that the ideology of violence is not glorified in any form.
He said there is no place for Naxalism and violence in the new Chhattisgarh. The role models for Bastar’s younger generation should be those who contribute through education, service, hard work, innovation and nation-building, rather than those who resorted to violence.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said the establishment of peace in Bastar represents the courage and trust of its people. The government’s highest priority now is to make this peace permanent and build a new identity for Bastar based on development, tourism, education, employment and prosperity.
